Low Vision Associates was founded in 1986 to help people with low vision problems. Since that time, we have treated thousands of patients. Even many low vision patents who were told by other doctors that "they could do nothing more to help them" have been helped here.
Low Vision Associates specializes in fitting the latest low vision glasses and contact lenses including bioptic telescopic lenses and microscopic lenses, filtered lenses, high powered and prismatic lenses which all may be helpful for many conditions.
What is Low Vision? Low vision is a condition in which a person has some vision but it is limited. This condition may interfere with daily pastimes such as reading, watching television, using the computer or driving. People with low vision generally have some remaining vision with reduced sharpness, narrowed fields of vision, haziness or blind areas.
What causes Low Vision? Low vision is often the result of an injury, a birth defect, the aging process, a disease or a condition such as ocular albinism, retinitis pigmentosa or Stargardt's macular dystrophy. If the condition develops later in life, it is generally caused by glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration or diabetes.
Can people with Low Vision be helped? YES! Today many new low vision aids and systems can help low vision patients to see better. However, the patient must be motivated and show a willingness to work toward their goal of improved vision. As an example, many patients are now able to continue to drive safely with low vision corrections.
